This guide walks you through everything you need to consider while shopping for luxury vinyl flooring.
Benefits of Vinyl Floors for Your Home
When you browse hardwood samples, you will likely fall in love with the warmth and natural beauty of wood. However, it may not be the right fit for every homeowner. Luxury vinyl plank has a multitude of benefits for homes with lots of traffic, high levels of moisture, and minimal time to fuss with the care and maintenance of a new floor.
You get a stunning visual that looks so realistic that you might not even notice that it isn’t wood!
Areas with Lots of Moisture: Historically, our customers have been understandably concerned about hardwood flooring in areas with lots of moisture like the kitchen, laundry room, and full bathrooms. Now, you have the perfect solution with more water-resistant floors like vinyl. They can hold up to more splashes and spills which makes them perfect for moisture-heavy areas or even beach homes where water is front and center.
Extra Hardness and Durability: The stone polymer core that makes up the foundation of a vinyl floor makes it much harder than what you will get with many wood floors. This means it is less likely to dent under heavy furniture or wear and tear from dog nails (though you should still keep them trimmed). While not bulletproof, luxury vinyl flooring does have some added durability that makes it ideal for families with pets, kids, and high traffic.
Easy Installation: The floors that we carry are all designed to be floated over your existing subfloor. For ease of use, they all have a click-lock mechanism that allows you to snap each piece in place before moving to the next one. Your vinyl floor installation can move full steam ahead, even with very little know-how. Of course, our selected installation crews can also help you with every part of the process.
Budget-Friendly: Perhaps the most appealing aspect of luxury vinyl floors is their price tag. They tend to be more affordable than wood without sacrificing quality or longevity. If you want to remodel your home on a budget, start browsing for material in our expansive luxury vinyl section.
Flooring Installation Methods
While laying hardwood flooring or ceramic tile requires finesse and often takes years of experience, a vinyl floor installation is better suited to the handy homeowner who wants a fresh challenge. Some vinyl tile can indeed be glued, but all of the LVP floors that Woodboys carries are designed to be floated over your existing subfloor, making them easier than ever for a DIY installation. They are manufactured with a click-lock mechanism that allows you to fold each piece together and snap it in place.
Additionally, our selection of vinyl floors have a pad attached to the back for a softer feel underfoot and better acoustics with more sound deadening. Not all pads are created equal, but you may see popular options with closed-cell foam or cork pads. Other than this attached pad, the only thing you may need is an inexpensive 6 mil plastic moisture barrier beneath the floor.
Care and Maintenance of Your Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring
Keep your new floors looking great for years to come with the proper care and maintenance. Here are a few simple tips to maintain your luxury vinyl plank and protect your investment.
- Sweep and vacuum regularly: Dirt buildup on your floor can lead to surface scratches and damage to the finish of your floor. Sweep or vacuum with the beater bar turned off to remove majority of the grime from your home.
- Clean with an approved cleaner: Only use a manufacturer’s recommended cleaner on your vinyl floors. Woodboys carries Bona Professional cleaner which is approved by all of the flooring manufacturers we carry.
- Use area rugs and entry mats in high-traffic areas: While your new flooring will be extremely durable, it can be beneficial to protect your floor with area rugs in the most highly-trafficked parts of your home. Entry mats can also minimize sand, dirt, and debris that come in from outside and create unnecessary wear and tear on your floor.
